When do I pay my exhibitor fee?

2008 SPRING FESTIVAL AT LOOPTOPIA APPLICATION QUESTIONS ... top
Is my catalog image going to be chosen from the images I submit with my application?
Yes. Around the Coyote reserves the right to choose which image from those you submit we will use for the catalog. This goes for galleries, co-ops, alternative spaces as well as for artists. If you would like to request that a specific image be used, please note that on your application and we will do our best to fulfill your request. We will not, however, print any images that are not at least 300dpi at 5x7inches (see below for more information on how to submit print quality images).
At what size should I send my digital images?
When you send images to us, since we need to print them out on paper, the most important aspect is the pixel dimensions. Since we like to be able to send your images to magazines and newspapers that might print them as large as 5x7 inches, it is important to send files that will resolve to 300 pixels per inch when they are scaled to that size. This means that on your computer screen they will look really big (screen resolution is approximately 72 pixels per inch). Please make sure that the images you submit are at least 1500 x 2100 pixels. This means that if your image is 1 inch wide, you will want to set the resolution to be 1500dpi (dots--or pixels--per inch), if your image is 2 inches wide, you will want to set the resolution to be 750dpi. Of course, you will always be able to decrease pixel dimensions once you have an image at a size, but you will not be able to increase pixel dimensions without losing image quality, so it is important to take pictures large and then shrink them when you send them to us, if need be. All images should be CMYK.
What is CMYK?
CMYK stands for Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK. Digital images are usually either encoded in RGB or CMYK color space; when they are printed they need to be printed with 4-colored inks: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black. When images are converted from RGB to CMYK, they often lose saturation. This process can be rectified by opening the files in an image manipulation program (such as Photoshop) and adjusting the saturation manually after they are converted. ATC will not be able to do this, which is why you will want to do it yourself, when submitting images to us.
What is an artist's bio?
An artist's bio is similar to a resume except that it focuses on education and career experience specifically related to your art-making. Every major exhibition - both group and solo shows - should be noted as well as any grants or awards received.
Please view this sample bio.
What is an artist's statement?
In a nutshell, an artist's statement is a brief description of your motivations and processes for making your artwork. Why are you an artist and why do you make the art you make in the way that you make it? We need to know this, but more importantly, we need to see that you are able to talk about these issues in regards to your art making.
REGARDING 2008 SPRING FESTIVAL AT LOOPTOPIA OPERATIONS ... top
Does Around the Coyote have parking?
The only parking available is street parking, or parking garages, but there is a decent amount of it (compared to New York City or Tokyo).
What venues are you using for the 2008 Spring Festival at Looptopia?
We will have two venues for the festival. The Around the Coyote Riverwalk Gallery is located on the river at the southwest corner of Wabash and Wacker in Chicago's Loop and will be open May 2-4, 2008. There will be 80 visual artists, a cafe, large-scale installations and opening parties at the Riverwalk Gallery. The second venue is the historic Fine Arts Building (410 S. Michigan Ave). At this venue we will have all-night literary, film, and music programming as well as numerous open artist studios on May 2, 2008 from 5pm to 8am.
Can clients use their credit cards to buy art during the festival?
Around the Coyote does not provide access to credit card machines, but a few artists have found it advantageous to arrange for their own credit card machines at their booths. Arranging this is entirely the artist's responsibility.
Where is the closest ATM machine?
There are ATM machines all over the neighborhood. You will not have trouble finding a bank.
GALLERY AND STUDIO RENTAL QUESTIONS ... top
How do I rent a studio in the Flatiron Arts Building?
Around the Coyote is merely a renter in the Flatiron Arts Building. We do not manage the studios in the building. To inquire about open studio spaces call John Zimmers at Realty and Mortgage 773-549-8300 and please let Mr. Zimmers know you heard about him through Around the Coyote.
How do I rent a studio in Wicker Park?
Besides the Flatiron Arts Building and the various commercial and residential real estate available periodically throughout the neighborhood, we highly recommend the Splat Flats Building. Contact Valerie Pell regarding available studio space at 312-961-9958.
How do I rent the Around the Coyote Gallery?
Around the Coyote's beautiful 2400 square foot gallery is available to rent for corporate parties, fundraisers, wedding receptions etc.. We do not, however, rent purely for art exhibitions. All art exhibitions in the Around the Coyote Gallery must go through the curatorial process. Rarely we make concessions for non-profits and charities looking to have a short-run art exhibition fundraiser; however, even in these special circumstances, Around the Coyote requires curatorial oversight. How do I exhibit in the Flatiron First Fridays?
