This short about an amazing boy is set to a beautiful score and masterfully made with found footage. Colin Polumbi, a curator for Chicago’s Ice Capades, is quickly becoming a favorite both near and far for his witty shorts and found footage enthusiasm.
Kim Alpert is a Chicago native and has been film co-curator for Around the Coyote for the past several years. She has been creating independent shorts about social and political themes effective her life. This is the first screening of her latest work, Body. Body is a look at the effects of female objectification, the effects, and an introspective journey into her own experience.
When his fiancé dumps him for a lesbian lover, Roger Gilroy turns to self-affirmation and discovers his inner whale.
Kenneth Yoder, co-curator of Around the Coyote, is a local independent film worker. If it was shot in Chicago, there’s a good chance Kenneth was there. This short is about a woman throws away tattered old panties inciting an arguement between her and her boyfriend..
The Index of Absence is a participant-based video project that is an anthology of loss. A participant submits footage of his or herself, speaking to the camera, as if it were someone in their life that they have lost in any sense of the word. The demographic of participants are diverse in the ranges of racial/ethnic background, sexuality, and occupation. Mary then selects the one-minute moment from each participant and arranges them in the five stages of grief, beginning with denial and ending in acceptance.
Director's Statement: I am interested in the connection that an audience member has with the screen, and in this context, to each individual's experience. Audiences usually identify with the protagonist, yet ironically, love and loss are the times we feel most alone. I am endeavoring to lessen the distance and separation that the audience has with the screen. The video has a cathartic effect on the viewer. “

Screen 1: Slomo Video - (2006) Created by Ryan Junell
SLOMO VIDEO is a unique touring program 100 one minute slow motion videos by 85 filmmakers and video artists from around the world. The creative compilation includes works by artists LoVid, Matmos, Wiley Wiggins, Yoshi Sodeoka, Keith Fullerton Whitman, and Eddie Codel. “This unique compilation of cinematic slowness will pull the audience through a molasses-tinged warp of catastrophic visual and audio beauty.”
Screen 2: Machinima Film Festival - (2002) Compiled by the Academy of Machinima Arts and Sciences
The emerging genre of machinima is a convergence of filmmaking, animation, and gaming in which artists use the graphics engines of video games to create cinematic works in real time. Showcasing the winners and nominees from the first annual Machinima Awards held in 2002, the compilation is a showcase for some the very best of what the machinima community has produced so far. Shorts include “Hardly Wokin'” by Frank Dellario, “Rendevous” by Peter Rasmussen “Rick Jones 2” by Byan Henderson.
Screen 3: Decasia - (2002) By Bill Morrison
Decasia is an experimental film composed entirely of decaying, nitrate-based archival film footage from before 1950 which seems to melt, burn, drip and deteriorate on the screen. The film creates an artful collage of visually damaged clips, including everything from fragments of silent melodramas to ethnographic studies, travelogues, newsreel footage and wildlife documentaries.
