Employment Opportunities at Around the Coyote


ART EDUCATORS: We are currently accepting resumes for art educators with experience working with adults and kids age 6 to 18 years for our art programs at the Around the Coyote Gallery and Wicker Park. FIGURE MODELS: We are currently looking for experienced figure models for our figure drawing classes from 7-9pm. We pay $15 per hour and require a series of short and long poses. If you are interested please email your name, address and telephone; a brief description of your figure modeling experience; and three relevant references to education@aroundthecoyote.org. INTERNS: We are currently looking for interns willing to work for experience, for course credit or as a part of your schools work-study program. Non-students interested in our internships are also encouraged to apply. Interested applicants should email a cover letter, resume and a brief description of what you hope to achieve through your internship with Around the Coyote. We are seeking interns for the following positions:

  • Arts Administration. Interested in working in all areas of programming for the upcoming festival season? Day to day work would include gaining sponsorships, securing and organizing venues for artists, communication with artists and performers, working with festival curators, press outreach, some database work, mailings, archive work, gaining donations for our silent auction fundraiser etc....

  • Graphic design. The preferred applicant would be a creative graphic design major looking for experience working in the arts and specifically art festivals. Candidates must possess an excellent grasp of design, be able to work within a design theme, and be able to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines. Proficiency in Adobe CS2 (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and Quark a must. Any web based knowledge is a definite bonus (HTML/ASP/CSS), especially any experience with online databases. A minimum of 20 hours per week is required with a preference for 11-3pm Monday thru Friday. Applicants must be able to work through our fall festival in mid October, and the months leading up to it, as that is when the bulk of our festival design work will be done. This is an unpaid internship, but you will gain invaluable experience related to the requirements of creating a design program for a non-profit arts organization, emerging art gallery and multi-media festival.

  • Education. Interested in developing Around the Coyote's education programming at the Around the Coyote Gallery and Wicker Park? Education interns would assist in curriculum building, supply budgets, gaining sponsorships, assisting professional teaching artists in the classroom, and finding creative ways to highlight Around the Coyote's education programs.

  • Grant Writing and Development. Interested in assisting Around the Coyote with grant writing and development of private and foundation contributions? All elements of researching and writing grants will be explored. Must have solid writing skills and be thoroughly organized.

  • Curating. Interested in gaining experience in the day-to-day mechanations of an emerging art gallery? Our curating internship would have you working on all aspects of the promotion, installation, deinstallation, and event organization of our monthly gallery exhibitions and Artist-in-Residence program. Throughout the internship, the curating intern will work on an exhibition proposal for our gallery under the guidance of Around the Coyote's executive director. The completed proposal will be reviewed by Around the Coyote's Gallery Committee with the possibility of Around the Coyote working the exhibition into its upcoming exhibition schedule.

  • Marketing. Interested in gaining real-world experience in the developement and execution of marketing plans for our non-profit arts organization? Our Marketing intern will be expected to review our current marketing strategies in order to provide new ideas and strategies for getting our message out, expanding our audiences and gaining additional revenue sources. This internship is open only to graduate students studying marketing.

  • Art Preparators. Interested in gaining real-world experience in hanging exhibitions and cleaning, packing and shipping art? Art Preparator work is in great demand, but usually only if you have experience. This position would be on an as-needed basis, with a committment of at least 3-4 days per month necessary. Our Art Preparator Intern will be responsible for assisting in the installation and de-installation of each exhibition as well as preparations for our fall and spring festivals.

    Theatre students looking to expand their production knowledge while assiting in the planning and execution of our fall and spring arts festival theatre program. This internship offers the opportunity to work in an office setting as well as on site at local theatres on everything that it takes to organize and execute the theatre portion of our festivals. The fall festival covers a wide range of theatre and performance from parades and puppetry to full length stage productions. You will get a chance to work with many different types of theatre professionals. Interns routinely interact with directors, designers and management professionals and are assigned a variety of projects that directly impact each of the approximately 15 productions occuring over the festival weekends. In addition, you will help manage the theatre festival, learning the skills necessary to maintain day–to–day operations of a large public arts festival. Interns will also help with the programming of our Reading Series, a monthly event, dedicated to helping playwrights in development of new work. Interns will work up to 15 hours a week with more time expected as the festival draws near.
